Mohammadpur Kendriya College, located in the heart of Mohammadpur, Dhaka, is a prestigious educational institution known for academic excellence and community contribution. Established in 1969, it was created to meet the rising educational needs of the area. The college offers Higher Secondary, Undergraduate (Pass & Honours), and Master’s programs under the National University of Bangladesh. With over 18,000 students and more than 150 faculty members, it fosters a dynamic learning environment across disciplines including Science, Arts, Social Science, and Business Studies. The campus spans 3.5 acres and features smart classrooms, a digital library, multimedia labs, and eco-friendly surroundings. The motto, “Knowledge is Power,” reflects the college’s commitment to holistic development and nation-building through education.
Mohammadpur Kendriya College began its journey on May 31, 1969, during a period when Mohammadpur was predominantly inhabited by non-Bengali communities, especially Urdu speakers. As a result, several Urdu-medium institutions flourished in the area. In 1975, three institutions—Mohammadpur College, Mohammadpur Girls College, and Dhanmondi Central College—were merged, creating what was originally called Mohammadpur Central College. Soon after, its name was changed to “Mohammadpur Kendriya College” to embrace the Bengali language and culture post-independence. Initially offering HSC-level education, the college gradually expanded into higher studies. Its early years were driven by community demand and social transformation, and the institution quickly became a hub of academic growth, cultural development, and educational opportunity for a changing demographic.
Today, Mohammadpur Kendriya College stands as a beacon of accessible, inclusive education in Dhaka. It offers Honours and Master’s degrees in subjects including Bangla, English, Sociology, Political Science, Philosophy, History, Islamic Studies, Physics, Chemistry, Math, Botany, Zoology, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, and more. Professional programs like BBA and CSE also enhance career readiness. With smart classrooms, a temperature-controlled digital library, strong internet access, and a peaceful, green campus, the college blends tradition with innovation.
